COLLECTIONS

About local history collection of the Móricz Zsigmond Municipal Library Tata

The library has begun to form its own local history collection since the first half of the 70's. First of all, the library tried to obtain the books, newspapers, periodicals, manuscripts concerning the history of the town and later the history of the surroundings. At the beginning the Municipal Council also supported this activity.
The creation of the local history collection is dedicated to Kocsis Lászlóné (Marika) it is all her merit. She considerably relied on Miklós Pastinszky's expertise and his delivered or sold books. Later the "Circle of Tata Friends" - established in 1976 - had a major role in the development of the collection because it worked with the library institutional support for a long time. The goal of this organization was also to save the intellectual, environmental and built value of the town. The collecting activity became important in the organization and in the library as well. With purchasing and acquiring by gift several documents were added to the collection, so we can be justly proud of it.
Since then the local history collection is still one of the most significant collections of the library, which is continuously growing with significant donations and purchasing.

In this separate-collection there are further "classifications". On the one hand there is a group according to the type of the document: books, manuscripts, periodicals, newspapers, pictures, postcards, microfilms, tapes, VHs and DVDs lately. On the other hand it can be classified based on whose collection it was. Probably the most prominent from this collection is the so-called 'Magyary- collection'. It contains the remarkable personal data, books, manuscripts, essays and memoirs of the famous and well-known professional, reputable in the European government, Zoltan Magyary who was born in Tata.
You can find the biographies of the famous men of the town, articles and writings about them as well. The number of the publications was increased by our colleagues too. It's important to notice that regarding the periodicals and the professional work there is a co-operation with the directorate of the county museums and their experts. Significant and rare publications were re-issued due to the various anniversaries in the second half of the 1980s. One from this significant works is the Memoirs of the "Tatai Népfőiskola" (Folk College of Tata) which is still an important work. Dr. Attila Kálmán and Lászlóné Kocsis were the two motors and enthusiastic organizers of the publication of this work. It continued with the reprinting of the original guide book by Kopaszné from 1888 then with publications of the lecturers - in the Scientific Brochures series - from the Conference organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zoltan Magyary. At the same time "Mi lesz Tatatóvárosból?"("What will be with Tatatóváros?") by Magyary was also reprinted.
Later the good use of the opportunities Adolf Mohl: "Tata plébánia története" ("History of Tata parish") could be published and Géza Polgárdy: "Tatatóváros és környéke kalauza" ("Guide book of Tatatóváros and its surroundings") was published too. We made a little detour when we pull to the polite literature. The library published the works of the significant younger or elder writers for example György Kunszt, Ferenc Horkay Hörcher and János Csokits to the tune of her some works in the 'Alleé brochures' serial. With the help of professionals, friends and others supports Róbert Túri's bibliography was published in which the author gathered together the ethnographic works of the Komárom-Esztergom county.
The separate collection has always been significant to acquaint with the history of this settlement. We give help for several thesis and other publications.
