INTRODUCING

The municipal library in Tata, which was named for Móricz Zsigmond, has been one of the most visited and popular cultural institution since it was established in 1949. The name was always changed according to the actual political and administrative models (library of district, library of the town, library of the cultural; right now this library is called public library) but it’s main aims are always the same:

Providing substantial and high-level service for all the members - children and adults - in the town. To ensure the accessibility to the information for example technical literature which is necessary for studying or such high-standard literature as help to spend the free time – fulfilling the various user requirements. Our librarian has been working on this since decades, considering the more and more changing interests and the technical improvements. So we started to collect not only books and periodicals but the no-traditional library documents: VHS, then DVD, multimedia and musical CDs.In recent times we began to collect sound-books so we can help those users whose sight is limited or blind by ensuring them the literature on cassette and CD!

Due to the location of the town there are two deposit libraries, which are situated in Agostyán and Kertváros so are ensured the library service first of all who lived there.

The library provides borrowing, information browse even the possibility of interlibrary lending with offering the requested literature from whichever library of the country.

We established our computer-park.Using computer the readership can obtain the searched information directly across internet.

The library ensures half hour free internet using for own readership. The library has been logistic and methodological centre of the surroundings or as it is called by modern terminology: subregion municipal libraries since its foundation. This network and central function survived the social and administrative changes and has been functioning as an illustration since decades.

The library ensures the professional holdings expansion and purchasing of perodicals and other information materials to the following related villages: Baj, Dunaalmás, Dunaszentmiklós, Naszály, Tardos, Kocs, Vértestolna and Szomód.
